Heirloom Linens is proud to offer what we think might just be
the best night's sleep since you were a baby...
One of the hottest trends in mattresses of late has been the introduction of Latex Mattresses. Latex has become a real buzzword in the industry and virtually all manufacturers of beds are now offering their versions. Initially mattresses were offered with a Latex component, usually the topper layer but it’s now common for traditional innerspring mattresses being replaced with latex.
I firstly want to mention that Heirloom Linens does NOT sell conventional or what I will call coil spring or innerspring mattresses. We don’t sell them because there is a proliferation of mattress stores that will offer you a large selection and varied price range of these mattresses. We carry a 100% natural Dunlop Latex mattresses primarily because our largest supplier of wool duvets and pillows has been researching and perfecting their line of Latex mattresses for several years. I will go so far as to say that the owner of SnugSleep has done little else outside of mattress research and refinement for almost as long as I have known him. His current line of SnugSleep Latex Gold mattresses are the culmination of his 30 years of work.
Why the interest in Latex you might ask? One of the concerns many voice is wanting their mattress to be “green” and they don’t want products that off- gas, within their homes and bedrooms. Others comment that they want a natural product, one that is anti-bacterial, hypo-allergenic and offers anti-dust mite properties. Still another concern is that many mattresses do not offer any spinal alignment for side sleepers due simply to the fact that the mattresses are too firm. Many of us are side sleepers, at least for a portion of the night. If you could see the “spinal alignment” on a side sleeper, sleeping on the conventional mattress, it’s clear that not only is there virtually no spinal alignment, they are in fact supporting most of their body weight on their shoulder, hip and knees. In addition, improper support from a pillow that isn’t matched to their sleeping style and mattress contributes to their sleep issues.
Despite the hype surrounding Latex mattresses, they are in fact an excellent choice for those seeking a greener alternative and an effective choice for those with chemical or allergy concerns. For those of you simply unable to get a good night’s sleep or pain issues not solved with a conventional bed, latex may very well be the product you need.
Is all latex the same? Absolutely not!! Many latex mattresses are not an all natural Latex product. During World War II, synthetic latex was created to offset the shortage of natural latex. As a result, products labeled as being Latex can be natural or synthetic, making it difficult for the consumer. A natural Latex rubber is considered the “gold standard” in Latex mattresses so make that your first choice when it comes to mattress selection.
The other big difference between natural and synthetic is that natural Latex doesn’t sleep hot. The heat has been the number one concern of any of our customers that have a synthetic Latex mattress. They are looking for ways to “cool it down”. Something that can be difficult and expensive to solve once you own the mattress. It’s interesting that one company in particular that offers a synthetic version, have now introduced a “Thermo” model that sleeps cooler. If the hot sleep from synthetic mattresses was not the issue they claimed previously, then why the new model introduction to eliminate a complaint that they say was never an issue in the first place?
All 100% natural Latex Gold mattresses by SnugSleep are built to provide a safe, healthy, and long lasting sleeping environment. SnugSleep’s multi layer mattresses are built to provide custom support and comfort layer by layer for each sleeper. Ranging from the basic 6" block regular mattress to the supreme 10" multi layer mattress (5/6 layers of latex), all Latex Gold mattresses by SnugSleep offer:
SnugSleep Latex Gold is available in 4 densities (firmness levels – Ultra Soft, Soft, Medium and Firm) and comes in 1", 2", 3" or 6" layers. Latex Gold mattresses come in 6", 8" or 10" depths.
A multi layer mattress provides the optimum in customized support and comfort, and allows for future customer adjustment if support needs change (i.e. pregnancy). For example an 8" mattress made up of 4 x 2" layers of Latex Gold, will provide more comfort and individualized support than a 6" block with a 2" topper.
Your age, weight, shape, possible medical problems as well as personal preferences will help determine which Latex Gold mattress is correct for you. From the 6" basic to the 10" Supreme, with Latex Gold you are assured of a safe and healthy sleeping environment.
Your SnugSleep Latex Gold mattress can be customized after purchase. The organic cotton cover can be unzipped and the various density layers can be restacked bringing the firmer layers closer to the top of the mattress if it’s too soft or restacking the softer layers closer to the top of the mattress if it’s too firm. Secondly, Double, Queen and King versions offer custom support for each sleeper. Each side of these mattresses can be configured to your own weight, height, shape and possible medical problems, so the mattress is custom made for each sleeper.

In addition to their extensive line of SnugSleep Latex Gold mattresses, they have recently introduced a “budget line” they call the SnugSleep Composite mattress. These offer the same quality and product as their Latex Gold line, but these do not have the customization for different degrees of firmness nor the ability to tailor each side of the mattress to each sleep partner. They also do not have the wool layer on top of the latex and underneath the mattress cover.
The 6” Composite mattress offers a 1” Soft layer, followed by 4 separate 1” Medium layer and is finished with another 1” Soft layer. The 8” Composite mattress offers the same 1” Soft layer, 4 separate 1” Medium layers and a 1” Soft layer on top, but this version also has a 2” topper that you can select as Ultra Soft, Soft, Medium or Firm.
This lack of customization for these Composite mattresses is reflected in their lower prices.
What is Latex Gold rubber?
2. not genuine; insincere; synthetic compression.
3. a synthetic substance or material. Definition of 'natural': Natural adj. 1. of, existing in. or produced by nature: natural.
2. as is normal or to be expected.
3. being so through innate qualities: genuine or spontaneous.
4. made from organic material; not synthetic: a natural fibre like cotton. The differences! Natural Latex Gold rubber has high resilience and strong elongation properties which help to enhance the performance over a long period of time. Foams made from synthetic latex do not have these properties to the same degree, therefore also minimising the cost. Natural is very low on non-rubbers whereas synthetic has about 5% nonrubber in the form of soap which is washed out in the manufacturing process. At New Zealand Foam Latex we have a clear philosophy regarding synthetic rubber and that is "We don't and won't use petro-chemical materials in our rubber". How long will it last? Direct ultra-violet light is often the cause of rubber perishing, but because the rubber is covered with a mattress fabric in all our applications, latex Gold will not break down. Latex Gold has the capacity to withstand hard wear without collapsing or losing its shape. Does Latex Gold get damp? On average. a sleeper loses one pint (400 millilitres) of water each night Latex Gold does not absorb dampness from the atmosphere and because air circulates continually through the rubber, moisture is dissipated. Does Latex Gold rubber get hot? Latex Gold rubber is very porous and as the rubber is compressed and released. air is circulated around the material. The pin core construction promotes the flow of air through the matlress. The reputation that rubber has for being 'hot' has been in connection with impermeable surfaces such as groundsheets, airbeds, etc. as these are made up with an unbroken solid surface that does not breathe and as such, cannot be compared. Does Latex Gold have harmful chemicals in it? Latex Gold is non-toxic and environmentally safe. Our production staff are not required to take any special precautions when handing ingredients during the manufacturing process. Why is it germ, moth and vermin resistant? Latex Gold is by nature aseptic and repels germs. It is also moth and vermin resistant. As a result latex rubber is widely used in hospitals. Does Latex Gold give a healthier sleep? As well as its hygienic properties. Latex Gold is denser than synthetic rubber and it retains its shape and cushioning properties. The consistent resilience uniformly supports the sleeper while the softness provides overall comfort Latex Gold is quick to recover its original shape and any motion disturbance caused by tossing and turning is absorbed rather than being transferred from one sleeping partner to another. Is Latex Gold healthier? Specially moulded to breathe more freely and contour to your body shape. Latex Gold supports your body uniformly, yet yields to the extra pressure and shape of your hips and shoulders, providing correct 'spine in line' support. Natural latex has the highest natural bacteriostatic and antibacterial properties. unmatched by any other polyurethane or synthetic foam. Does it help asthma and hay fever sufferers? Sufferers from asthma and hay fever are often dstressed by the presence of feathers, down or dust. Latex Gold is dustless and has nothing to disintegrate to form irritating particles in the air. Is Latex Gold expensive? Nothing is more expensive than a mattress that loses its original comfort in a short period of time or requires constant attention. Latex Gold is practically indestructible, and with correct usage, will last indefinitely and promote good health, all for a moderate initial cost It therefore represents the highest value for money in the truest sense of the word. What is the best base to use with a Latex Gold mattress? For a Latex Gold mattress, the main essentials are a base that permits the mattress to ventilate itself and one that does not sag. Any good box spring base or slatted wooden base that conforms to these requirements is suitable. Has it been proven? Latex Gold is highly resilient and extremely durable and has been manufactured for over 50 years. It is not uncommon to replace the cover of a mattress that is over 30 years old and find that the rubber is still in good condition. Latex Gold - a healthier sleep at last!
