Find Your Perfect Sheets

Posted by on

There is nothing quite like the feeling of crawling into fresh, clean sheets at the end of the day. When it comes to getting a good night's sleep, the quality of your sheets can make all the difference. With so many options on the market, it can be overwhelming to choose the right ones for you. But fear not, we've got you covered.

You know your shoe size, but do you know your mattress depth? When shopping for sheets, we recommend you add 3-4" to the depth for cotton sheets, 4" for flannel or bamboo sheets, and 1-2" for polyester, polyester blend, or microfibre sheets. This will allow your sheets to snugly stay on the bed and not pop off when you roll over.

Consider the material. Cotton is a classic choice for its softness and breathability, but there are other options such as linen for a more relaxed feel, bamboo for a luxurious touch, or polyester for wrinkle resistance. Any natural fiber will give allow for a more comfortable sleep due to its breathability but with breathability will come wrinkles. Any natural fiber will wrinkle but the use wool dryer balls will help. After a few washings to allow the fabric to blossom you will see less wrinkles and more softness.

Next, think about the thread count. Contrary to popular belief, higher thread count doesn't mean better quality. Thread count simply means the number of thread in one square inch of fabric. Thread count is not going to tell you how soft or how durable a sheet is. Just because you have had a 300 thread count before does not mean all 300 thread count sheets will feel just like that one. Look for a thread count between 200 and 500 for a comfortable and durable option.

Another factor to consider is the weave. Percale is a tight weave that feels crisp and cool, while sateen is a looser weave that feels silky and smooth. And don't forget about the color and pattern. Choose something that speaks to your personal style and complements your bedroom decor.

You wouldn't take your fine, 100% cotton blouse, throw it in the wash with some detergent, toss it in the dryer until it is so dry, it's hot. You should treat your sheets with the same care as a good piece of cotton clothing. Always read the care label on your sheets and follow the washing instructions.  Do not use bleaches or detergents claiming to whiten and brighten. Instead we recommend the use of a natural laundry soda.
